Since the subject of smoking is not expressly spoken of in the scriptures, many are confused as to the thoughts of God concerning smoking weed, cigarette, marijuana etc.
The fact that a subject is not written word for word in the bible does not validate or invalidate it as a sin. The thought of God concerning those subjects are not entirely hidden from us only if we can patiently dig out truth from God’s words. I trust God that as you follow through this article God’s intentions is made known to you.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”
The body of a believer is also important to God. Many has ignorantly neglected their human responsibilities to their body and has focused on their soul and spirit nourishment. It is not meant to be so, because God is also interested in your body too. So, God is entirely concerned with what a believer does with his body.
It is necessary for believer to honor God with their bodies but smoking would not make that possible. Because God bought us with a price (His Son Jesus Christ) we are meant to now live for Him with our whole being.
The scriptures advise in Ephesians to “not get drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18).
One of the reasons why getting drunk was spoken against is because it indulges in a lot of sensual pleasure. It makes one focus so much on the flesh and do not gratify the things of God. Smoking weed is no less that making a man feel like that.
Is Smoking Weed a Sin?
YES! Smoking weed is a sin. That many are trying to coin the word of God to suit themselves and multitude does not still validate what they say. The word of God still is the road map for every way a believer must walk.
Although it is not often, but people die from smoking weed excessively. This is because it has the tendencies of causing heart and lung complications.
Because of the addictive nature of weed, it has the tendencies of making people go broke. Many parents refuse to attend to their children’s need just because of their addiction to weed. Different people from different part of the world needed rehabilitation to seek freedom from this deadly addiction.
Satan has sold off the deception that a man can get satisfaction outside Christ. All in the name to get high, even our society teenagers and youth has been so affected by this great deception. The void in the life of a man can only be filled by God.
One of the deceptions the devil sold is systems such as medical marijuana. Sometimes people give in to the fact that they get more inspiration when they are high in weed. All this is just one of the signs of the end time. The devil is deceiving men to be more lovers of themselves than lovers of God. Smoking weed is a sin and God detest it.
Why a Christian Should not Smoke Weed
1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
The bible recommends that whatsoever a Christian do must be to the glory of God. Whether in eating or drinking, it is expected to be for God’s glory. Colossians 3:17 instructs that our words and deeds must be in the name of the lord Jesus, the question you should ask yourself is simple “is smoking weed in the name of the Lord Jesus?” The answer is no.
We are called to glorify God and act in His name, smoking won’t give us that access.
Did God Made Weed?
Genesis 1:29-30
God also said, “Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This food will be for you, for all the wildlife of the earth, for every bird of the sky, and for every creature that crawls on the earth—everything having the breath of life in it. I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
God created everything in the universe and he gave them to man. The purpose of the things he created was to be for men advantage upon the face of the earth. So, God created everything so that man may have satisfaction and comfort while ruling on earth. the essence also is to show man his dominion mandate over everything God created on earth.
GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS
Genesis 2:15-17
The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.”
Even though God created all the trees in the whole world including the garden of Eden. The instruction of God is still for man not to eat of all the trees of the garden. Eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil is deprivation from the instructions of God. God created all the trees but men are not permitted to eat from all the trees. God created poison, that does not mean God wants us to eat it. The same way that God creating weed doesn’t necessarily instruct consumption.
1 Corinthians 6:12
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
All things may be lawful, but not all things are expedient. You do not need to smoke weed because you need to proof a point that God also created it.
AFTER THE FALL
Genesis 3:17-18
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.”
After the fall, not all things are good anymore. After the fall the ground can now produce thorns and thistles for mankind. Before the fall not all trees are edible. Now after the fall many more things the ground would produce are called thorns and thistles that are also not edible for mankind. Some people claimed that God created weed, and that’s the reason they smoke. God created the ground too that produces thorns and thistle. Does that mean we should consume that too? No, dear reader.
How God Feels when you Smoke Weed
Proverbs 23:31-35
Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. Afterward it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will speak perverse things. And you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, and like one who lies down on the top of the rigging. You will say, “They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink.”
Anything that intoxicate a man outside the Holy Ghost is trying to take God’s place in the life of such a man. God is against intoxications that do not find their bearings from Him. God feels bad when men smoke.
Conclusion
Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
James 4:4
Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? So whoever decides to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy.
Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance as I told you before that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Anyone that smokes weed is in danger of eternity. And it is good for anyone who is addicted to smoking to seek the help of God for a change.
